At the Games Plus miniatures game auction in October, I nabbed a pair work-in- progress terrain pieces. They were on their way toward becoming a pair of urban ...

One thing that is ensured to modify the dynamics of a wargames battlefield is a river. The majority of video gaming systems have some principle of hazardous terrain rivers usually fall put bang into the middle of that certain category. In other words, if a river splits your table in half, then the game is likely to wind up all being about one side crossing the river and the various other trying to repel any type of river crossings. There are numerous ways you can construct terrain around a river - is it a wooded river valley? A high sided rocky gorge? A gentle rolling plain? Is there maybe a hamlet there? Whatever means you opt to set out your terrain around the river, the best kind of river to have is a sectional one. That is, the river itself is composed of a number of pieces of terrain that could fit together in different methods. I 'd suggest you 'd desire straight pieces and gentle curves - that means you can alter the format of the river and other terrain on your gaming table in between games. Rivers always produce fascinating games in my opinion - even if they are fordable, there is constantly the opportunity of losing soldiers and equipment in the crossing. If they cannot be crossed like that, and you have a bridge - then the game will likely turn on taking that bridge or defending it at all expenses.

Rivers can be made with suitably cut and painted parts of MDF or hardboard, making use of cut polystyrene foam, acrylic designers filler or just like make the banks. A coat of gloss varnish will create a great water effect. Alternatively, you could utilize any of the specialist water effects that you could get, made specifically to make use of in making wargames scenery. A thin layer of this looks really effective. Add some small rocks in the circulation of the river and use filler to make the foam of water hurrying round them - let your creativity run wild! If this all seems like excessive hard work, you can purchase prepared made river areas that just need painting, or sometimes even prepared painted too.

Whatever means you go, I 'd recommend adding a river to your wargames scenery collection.
